Mundane Task Going To Bed

Mundane Task, Going to bed. Again this was to test our ability when using the equipment, it was also to test our skills when it comes to lighting and aperture. This also did not take me long to film or edit!
Both the mundane tasks were really fun to film, it really got me thinking about camera angles and the more technical side of filming.

Mundane Task - Brushing Teeth

Mundane Task, brushing Teeth. This task was there to test us and encourage us to use multiple camera angles, and different equipment that would benefit us, when filming our final film.
Overall this task took me about 30 minutes to film, the editing took me roughly 3 lessons, therefore it was a quick project!

Book of Eli

Here we were given a task to do our own take on the clip from the Book Of Eli. We were put into groups and then given a script to read from, we then had to organise the characters, props, costumes and camera equipment. I really enjoyed this mini project, as it prepared us for our final film because we came across problems and had to find a way to overcome them.

Sound Track Pro

Se7en
By using the programme Sound Track Pro, I was able to take the opening sequence of Se7en and then remove the sound and build up my own sound effects for the clip. I did this in order to practice for doing the same for my final film. I really enjoyed doing this as it was challenging but it was still very fun.

My Target Audience Interview

I did this so that I would be able to see who my target audience is and if I need to change any part of my film to suit the audience. From the interview I don't feel that I will need to change any of my plans for my film, as I intended to incorporate all the typical conventions that my interviewee recognised.

Here is a screen grab of my survey. This is my target audience Interview, please fill it in as it will help me to see who my actual audience is...Thanks!

After Effects

Here I have taken screen grabs of the work that I was doing, using the programme After Effects. I imported the clip from the film Perfume and then I edited in the titles from the film Durham County, that I looked at a while ago. I found the programme quite difficult to use, in my opinion there was too many buttons and effects, for me to understand.

Timelapse of class...

Because I want to include a time lapse in my final film, I thought it would be useful to upload the time lapse taken during our lesson.

Ical Screen Grabs

On Ical I have been keeping a log of what I have been doing in class and for homework.
Here I have taken some screen shots of the months so far...

My Animatic...

This is my Animatic, I put my drawings from my storyboard into IMovie and made a short video to show what it will be like when I begin to film.
The whole point of this is to help me to understand and show to my target audience for feed back.

I am in the process of updating my Animatic, so that it includes sound and proper film titles!!

Time Lapse Examples...

Here I have selected two time lapse examples from YouTube.
I love how the time lapse is used in this film and I have chosen this clip to show what I am thinking of doing it also. I want to do a time lapse in St. Catherine's Woods, where the people constantly walk past the hand in the grass, oblivious to the fact that it is there.
I then would like to do a time lapse, on a close up of the hand in the grass and the grass growing up around it. I believe that this will be really effective and help to enhance my film opening.

Costumes and Make Up...

Costumes:
I do not need to prepare any costumes for my characters as, they will just wear their own clothes.
Courtney will be wearing her pyjamas, as she is awoken from her bed and then taken, therefore if she was to wear clothes it wouldn't make sense, so PJ's are suitable.
All that I require that Joel wears is a hoody, the rest of the outfit can be chosen himself. If it doesn't look silly I may also ask Joel to wear a black balaclava.

Make Up.
The two characters will both need make up applied, Courtney especially, therefore I am going to ask my friend Daisy Barnard to be the make up artist.

Characters...

The male character will be played by Joel Wheeler. He's 17 years of age and is currently doing his A Levels. I choose Joel because he is a close friend, who I believe will play a good part as he has previous acting experience and is confident in front of a camera. Another reason why I chose Joel is that he is also studying Media at A Level so he will be able to help me if I come across any problems.
The female character is going to be played by Courtney Stafford. She is 16 years old and is also studding her A Levels. Courtney is a good friend who is willing to be a part of my film, however she last little acting experience but has taken part in core drama for the first 3 years of Secondary School.

Location Shots...

The Girls Bedroom. This is my Bedroom, I will use this as my location to film the bedroom scenes, as it is easy for me to access and I have control over lighting and I also have no time limit on time.
The WareHouse/Basement. I want somewhere that appears derelict and unused to film the parts where the female character is dead and the male is in awe of her.
(This isn't the actual location but I am having trouble trying to get in touch with the people who own the actual warehouse, at the moment. Therefore I have collected these images to show what kind of location I am hoping to use.)
St. Catherine's Woods. This is where I will do the time lapse stuff. I have visited here many times before and it is usually quite busy therefore It will  be a great place to shoot a time lapse because people will constantly be walking past the camera lens.

Story Board...

This is my Story Board. I have drawn the different scenes by hand and then scanned them onto the computer, so that they could be viewed on here. On each section I have written at the side, a brief description of why I have chosen to use the type of angle and briefly explained what will happen. I have drawn a total number of 11 slides. However I'm still unsure if I will add more slides.

My Preliminary Task...

This is my Preliminary task, we had to do this in order to show our ability of using the camera equipment. We had to include some duologue and different camera angles. I edited it using Final Cut Pro and then IMovie to add music.

Title Time Line...

Here I looked at the film Durham County again and this time I focused on the timings of the titles and what they were. My chosen film only lasted 34 seconds so there wasn't a lot of titles popping up unlike other films therefore I've had a look at other films too, but I based this piece of work on this film.

Dexter...

The Opening Sequence of 'Dexter'...

I really like the close up on things at the beginning I really like how the camera has gone close up to the fly/mosquito on the humans arm.

I love the way that the title is sort of made out of a bloody texture and the droplets of blood fall onto the page.

I really like how the use of focus is played with in this clip, as the finger runs along the face, and the the sound effects are so crisp and sharp.  I love how clear the facial hair is on one part of the face and how the rest is out of focus.

The close up on the blood rolling down the face is really cool and if I show blood in my film opening then this is how I would incorporate it. Again the focus is played with to really enhance the presence of the blood.

I like how the images shown trick the viewer, like this one here. I looks like the character is cutting someone's flesh and then it is revealed that it is bacon that is being cooked for breakfast. I think that this is a great way to interest the audience.

Agian tricking the audience the way that the orange is being cut it resembles skin, I just love the way that the camera fools us, by using close ups and slow motion.

This shot makes us believe that someone maybe about to be strangled but we are then shown that he is trying his lases. It's just so cleverly done.

This screen grab looks really effective. Like someone is being suffocated, however he is just getting dressed.

Iron Man...

The opening sequence of 'Iron Man'...
Again this intro is partially made up of computer generated images therefore it's difficult to talk about camera angles and stuff, so I have written under some of the screen grabs and others I haven't!
Even though the opening sequence to Iron man is mainly computer generated, it still looks really cool!
Firstly a human pops up on our screen and the camera slowly zooms into his face, then with an element of fear on his face the opening credits jump from real life to graphics.
I like the way that the mans face turns from normal to pop arty/newspaper effect.
The way that the screen rolls from one scene to another, creates a flowing movement. Linking each new frame together.
Here is a medium shot of Iron Man. I really like the way that screen shakes throughout as if the camera were inside he actual robot. I'm not sure that I would be able to recreate this because it looks quite technical, and I wuoldn't know where to begin, but it does look really cool!!!
I also Like how the opening sequence is sort of mashed up and then sent into darkness.

Catch Me If You Can...

Opening sequence to 'Catch Me If You Can'...
Although it's a cartoon, this opening sequence is really cool. The character that appers, and looks shifty, and as the opening sequence unfolds the character is on the run from another stickman. The Graphics are amazing and the music is so fitting to the graphics.
The title is made more than obvious during the opening credits, as the stickman moves through an airport, the other stickman follows, but with great difficulty. It's a chase.
The retro animated intro to 'Catch Me If You Can' perfectly sets the scene and time period, of when it was filmed.
Basically because of the fact that this intro is entirely made up of cartoons, It is hard to talk about the use of camera angles and technical stuff like that, so I have just taken screen shots of the bits that I like and up loaded them.

Opening Scene of Dirty Dancing...

The opening sequence of 'Dirty Dancing'...
pastedGraphic.pdf
The camera first captures the car from a distance and films it getting closer and then driving past. The camera has such a smooth movement as it pans from left to right.
pastedGraphic.pdf
Here the camera uses a mid shot to introduces the two young female characters. The camera is far enough away to show the audience all they need to see at this point. It also captures their normality as they continue to do everyday things.
pastedGraphic.pdf
The Camera is then used to capture the relationship between a father and daughter. The close up on the pair shows the closeness between the two characters. The car continues to drive, and the music continues  to play as the narrater talks over.
pastedGraphic.pdf
The camera is then used to zoom in on a sign that is relevant, to the characters. The camera angle puts the views in the passengers perspective as the car drives along.
pastedGraphic.pdf
I like that way that as the camera gets closer to the sign it zooms right in and it sort of looks like the camera is trying to be part of the characters eyes, because it comes into focus as it gets closer and then becomes out of sight as they pass.
pastedGraphic.pdf
Again a close up is used, as the camera shows only the female character, 'Baby', it shows her importance of her character in the film. She is shown sat in the back seat, with a smile on her face, this helps to set the mood for the next part of the movie.
I believe that the frequent use of close ups is because the characters are in such close proximity, as they are in a car together.
